Yesterday I had the honor of speaking on the telephone with Dr. Wallace Sife, who is the founder of The Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement, a non-profit organization that deals specifically with the unique topic of grieving the loss of a pet.
Dr. Sife was gracious enough to allow me to post an excerpt from a chapter of his book The Loss of a Pet. This excerpt, entitled Children and Pet Loss is a must-read for any parent. There are links included in this article that will take you directly to Dr. Sife's non-profit website. The APLB is a nonprofit association of volunteers who are trained or experienced in the tender subject of pet death. Its members are professional counselors as well as pet-loving people from all other walks of life. They are all concerned with helping pet lovers cope with this unique and very intimate kind of loss.
You'll really want to read this article...Children and Pet Loss.
